Kudos to Reps. John Curtis, Utah Republican, and Gerry Connolly, Virginia Democrat, for having authored the Taiwan International Solidarity Act, which seeks to counter China’s attempts to keep Taiwan from membership in international organizations.

This is a vital step to uphold Taiwan’s rightful place in the global arena.

Taiwan belongs only to the people living there. Neglecting this population is a gross violation of the universality of membership
principles that most organizations uphold.

It is time to welcome Taiwan and, in fairness to the 23.5 million Taiwanese, give it the place it deserves so all countries can work together for the global good.

China’s increasing rhetorical and military intimidation is endangering regional peace and stability, with a consequent impact on the world’s
security and well-being.

The U.S. should resist Beijing’s efforts to influence any international organizations against Taiwan — and it should encourage its allies to take actions against China’s hindrance of Taiwan’s diplomatic relations.

The risk of a serious crisis in the Taiwan Strait is growing, and the stakes for America are immense. This bipartisan legislation not only
ensures that Washington stands against Beijing’s weaponization of international organizations and in solidarity with the people of Taiwan, it is also reaffirms U.S. commitment to the island nation.
