NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell announced Tuesday that the game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals will not be resumed this week.
The Monday night game was suspended after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on the field and went into cardiac arrest. Hamlin was given CPR on the field and taken to a nearby hospital in an ambulance. He is in critical condition, per the Bills’ Twitter account.
The NFL also announced, that as of Tuesday afternoon, no changes have been made to the schedule for Week 18 — the final week of the regular season. The league also hasn’t made a decision on whether or when the Bills-Bengals game will be resumed. The Bengals were winning 7-3 with about six minutes remaining in the first quarter when the game was suspended.
“The NFL continues to be in regular contact with the medical team caring for Damar Hamlin, and also the Bills and Bengals organizations and the NFL Players Association,” according to the NFL’s statement. “After speaking with both teams and NFLPA leadership, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the clubs today that the Bills-Bengals game will not be resumed this week. The NFL has made no decision regarding the possible resumption of the game at a later date. The league has not made any changes to the Week 18 regular season schedule.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Bills are scheduled to host the New England Patriots on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Bengals are slated to host the Baltimore Ravens at either 1 p.m. or 4:25 p.m.
