In the third quarter of the TCU-Michigan game on Saturday, ESPN’s Robert Griffin III took off his headset and answered a phone call while on live television.

“What are we doing? We’re in the middle of the game,” Griffin’s co-host Cole Cubelic said during ESPN’s “Field Pass with The Pat McAfee Show” alternate broadcast.

“Sorry guys, I gotta go,” Griffin responded. “My wife is going into labor. I’ll see you guys later.”

The former Washington quarterback then excitedly high-fived each of his co-hosts before sprinting off the field. Griffin, 33, hasn’t ruled out returning to the NFL, and his speed while running off the field shows he may have a few plays left in him.

As he ran off the field, an ESPN cameraman attempted to chase him down to capture the moment.

Griffin then updated people through Twitter as he tried to get back to his wife, Grete Griffin.

“Southwest got me Home in time!!! Because our baby decided it WASN’T TIME TO COME OUT YET,” Griffin tweeted early Sunday morning. “We are at Home and enjoying the other kind of 2023 fireworks. Baby Girl must have known that Mommy and Daddy had never spent a New Years apart. GOD KNEW where I needed to be.”
