New York City transportation officials struck out on a new road sign meant to honor baseball great Jackie Robinson.
Motorists in Queens quickly noticed that they were driving on “Jakie Robinson Parkway” on Sunday, as the signage was missing a crucial “c.”
The city’s Department of Transportation told WABC-TV that the sign was replaced Monday.
“This spelling mistake is absurd,” City Councilman Robert Holden said of the typo, according to the New York Post. “You don’t have a few eyes looking at these signs? DOT is a mess.”

Quana Martin, another local resident, told the newspaper that “I just feel it’s a little odd because how do you not know how to spell his name? He’s a well-known figure.”
Robinson broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947 as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was later inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
