In “Republican underdogs start to step in” (Web, Feb. 14), Nikki Haley is quoted as saying, “You should know this about me: I don’t put up with bullies. And when you kick back, it hurts them more if you’re wearing heels.”

The question I hope a reporter or citizen will pose to Mrs. Haley is, if you’re so tough, why did you fold up like a cheap lawn chair when the Democrats attacked the Confederate flag in South Carolina?

If Mrs. Haley understood American history, she would know that New Englanders (e.g., those in Bristol, Rhode Island) were slave trading long before the Confederate flag even existed as a battle flag. As we all know now, the Democrats used the Confederate flag to begin dividing and destroying the country and its history. And Mrs. Haley fell into the trap.

Has she learned from her mistake, or does she still side with the Democrats on the Confederate flag issue?
