Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson doesn’t seem too keen on being former President Donald Trump’s running mate, but hasn’t ruled out the idea.

“God would have to yell at me very loud,” Mr. Carlson said in a speech at the American Principles Project’s Christmas gala, according to Semafor.

A dinner attendee asked Mr. Carlson about a recent report from Axios that said Mr. Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, was advocating for the X host as his second in command.

The report said Melania thinks Mr. Carlson has a powerful onstage presence and would be a good extension of her husband.

“I don’t know her, really,” Mr. Carlson said. “To go from being, like, a well-paid street corner schizophrenic to, like, a politician — it’s just kind of hard to envision.”

Mr. Trump and Mr. Carlson have a good relationship.

When the former president avoided the first GOP debate, he opted for an interview with Mr. Carlson that was released on X the same night.

Mr. Trump has said he would consider Mr. Carlson as his running mate.

“I like Tucker a lot. I guess I would,” he said on “The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show” last month. “I think I’d say I would, because he’s got great common sense.”
