Megyn Kelly, who moderated the fourth GOP debate Wednesday, said Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie got all “up in my grill,” during a commercial break.
Ms. Kelly, who was one of the moderators for the fourth debate hosted by NewsNation, discussed the viral video of the former New Jersey governor on her program, “The Megyn Kelly Show.”
“There was also such a speculation about what was happening there. I will tell you what was happening there. It was not off the record. He was pissed off. He was mad that he wasn’t getting enough questions,” Kelly said. “And he said, ’I made it up in this stage and I haven’t been able to speak in a while and you know I should’ve been brought in on that last debate.’”
She admitted that Mr. Christie was excluded from the first 40 minutes of the debate because the moderators let the other three candidates “fight” it out on stage, but that she had every intention of giving him the first question about Mr. Trump in the second hour.
But, she added, he should be grateful for the questions he got.
“He’s polling at 2%, OK? In no debate ever — I’ve now done six of them — have we given as many questions to the guy who’s at 3% as the person who’s in the lead at least amongst the candidates on the stage,” Ms. Kelly said. “I’m sorry, Gov. Christie, that’s the way it is.”
The four candidates all received over 15 minutes of talking time — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis got 22 minutes, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy got 21 minutes, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley had 17 minutes and Mr. Christie got over 16.
“So he was, he was half — half a minute behind Haley, who is tied up there for No. 1” behind Mr. Trump in the GOP polls, Ms. Kelly said of the former governor’s time. “So, I don’t want to hear it.”
