Former President Donald Trump slammed former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie for how he performed in the fourth GOP presidential debate.
“Sloppy Chris Christie is not fit to run for President,” Mr. Trump wrote on the social media site X Friday. “… According to all, he came in LAST in the debate, and I came in FIRST, as I have in all of the debates, without even being there.”
Mr. Christie has been Mr. Trump’s most vocal GOP critic throughout the 2024 primary campaign and has called out the other candidates for not mentioning the former president by name. He said Mr. Trump should not be treated like Voldemort or “He-who-shall-not-be-named,” referring to the antagonist in the Harry Potter series.
He has also predicted that Mr. Trump, facing multiple federal and state prosecutions, will be convicted before the 2024 election.
He said at Wednesday night’s debate in Tuscaloosa, Alabama that Mr. Trump is “unfit” for another term.
“This is a guy who just said this past week that he wants to use the Department of Justice to go after his enemies when he gets in there,” Mr. Christie said. “And the fact of the matter is, he is unfit to be president, and there is no bigger issue in this race … than Donald Trump.”
As with the three previous candidate debates, Mr. Trump didn’t participate Wednesday night, and instead opted to do a town hall interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity on Tuesday in Iowa.
