Elon Musk’s X has been slapped with an unlawful termination lawsuit, adding to the company’s ever-growing legal pains.
Alan Rosa, former head of information security at Twitter, now called X, sued in a New Jersey court on Tuesday, accusing the company of firing him after he objected to new CEO Mr. Musk’s proposed budget cuts.
Mr. Rosa says that Mr. Musk requested he cut physical security by 50% and eliminate the policy that shared user information with global law enforcement. Mr. Rosa objected because, he said, if he obeyed Mr. Musk’s orders the company would risk violating a settlement agreement with the U.S. government.
Under the settlement, reached between Twitter and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission in 2022, the platform had to implement better privacy protections for its users and provide information to law enforcement about user posts.
According to Mr. Rosa, he was fired just days after objecting to Mr. Musk’s proposed changes. He is seeking compensation for unlawful termination and legal fees.
The lawsuit adds to X’s growing pile of legal headaches. Since being taken over by Mr. Musk in 2022, the company has accrued lawsuits relating to its unpaid severance, unpaid rent and its alleged discrimination against disabled and elderly employees.
