Atlanta, Georgia — In a world of many messages, we want to be the loudest voice to our children. Today’s Christian parents must be intentional and not merely outsource the moral upbringing of their children to the local church or others. We must spend time in our homes with our children by having real conversations about faith and the moral implications of faith in Jesus to those of us who proclaim Him.

We believe it’s important that Christian families actively engage in their local church through fellowship and volunteering. The local church is integral to the life of Christians and designed by God to be His primary means to bless families and the world.

A focus on the Word of God in the home is also essential. It can simply be reading one verse and asking if anyone has questions or thoughts, then praying together as a family. This practice anchors a family in unchangeable truth and provides a sense of stability. Being open and honest about our faith, and talking about how God is working in our lives sets a great example for children.

Prayer is vital as well, because it draws us closer to God, and teaches our children that there is an authority over parents, too. A lifestyle of prayer models for our children that we are deeply reliant on God to sustain and equip us to live out the life He has called us to live.

Elected leaders can also help in raising children by giving parents the freedom to educate their children in accordance with their faith. Teaching students about worldviews that differ from Christianity can be insightful and helpful as well, to prepare children for the future and foster greater understanding, respect, and unity among the next generation.
