Advocating support for FISA Section 702 reauthorization, the “FBI director says U.S. facing high level of threats: ‘I see blinking lights everywhere’” (web, Dec. 5).

But Section 702 was already in place in October prior to the FBI filing firearms charges against a Palestinian asylum-seeker with apparent interests in “how to construct bombs or explosive devices” and “the killing of individuals of particular religious faiths.”

How, then, was this individual vetted, released into the United States and granted work authorization in the first place? Is the FBI unaware that Islamic jihadis have vowed to use our own laws against us?
