A comment from a Dollar General customer led law enforcement to the location of human remains in woods near Lincolnton, North Carolina.

The North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office is now investigating the identity of the uncovered skeleton and the person’s cause of death.

The unnamed customer told a store employee that they had seen a skull while walking through some woods, so the employee contacted the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office at around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

After deputies arrived, they found the skull and the rest of the skeleton just south of the Dollar General parking lot, according to The Charlotte Observer.

Lincolnton is about 30 miles north of Charlotte, North Carolina.
