Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, Illinois Republican, criticized Christians who support former President Donald Trump by saying Tuesday that they don’t understand their religion.
“I’m going to go out on a NOT limb here: this man is not a Christian,” he said of Mr. Trump in a post on X. “If you are a Christian who supports him you don’t understand your own religion. Trump is weak, meager, smelly, victim-ey, belly-achey, but he ain’t a Christian and he’s not ’Gods man.’
The post was accompanied by a screenshot of Mr. Trump’s Truth Social post from Monday that bashed President Biden and special counsel Jack Smith and spewed other grievances.
That bashing included wishing hell upon them alongside greetings related to the birth of Jesus.
“Merry Christmas to all, including Crooked Joe Biden’s ONLY HOPE, Deranged Jack Smith, the out of control Lunatic who just hired outside attorneys, fresh from the SWAMP (unprecedented!), to help him with his poorly executed WITCH HUNT against ’TRUMP’ and ’MAGA,’” Mr. Trump wrote.
The former president went on to criticize numerous others who “are looking to destroy our once great USA.”
He then veered into all capital letters: “May they rot in hell. Again, Merry Christmas.”
Mr. Kinzinger has made numerous posts critical of the former president, posting earlier this month on X about Mr. Trump’s scent.
“I’m genuinely surprised how people close to Trump haven’t talked about the odor,” he posted on Dec. 16. “It’s truly something to behold. Wear a mask if you can.”
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung railed against Mr. Kinzinger in response to the post.
“Adam Kinzinger farted on live TV and is an unemployed fraud,” he told Newsweek. “He has disgraced his country and disrespects everyone around him because he is a sad individual who is mad about how his miserable life has turned out.”
When he was in office, Mr. Kinzinger was one of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Mr. Trump after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. He was also a member of the Jan. 6 committee that investigated that day’s events.
He decided not to run for reelection in the 2022 midterm elections. He is now a senior political commentator for CNN.
