Police in North Carolina said a mother turned her teenage son in Tuesday in connection to a car break-in spree where close to 200 vehicles were vandalized.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said the boy, whose age hasn’t been shared, was part of a three-person crew that broke into 184 cars from Dec. 13-18. The teen is charged with breaking into a motor vehicle, larceny after breaking in and conspiracy to break in.
Police said the trio mainly targeted cars parked at high-end apartment buildings.
One such apartment complex in the Dilworth neighborhood had 92 cars broken into Monday, according to authorities. The suspects busted the windows out of eight cars by another building down the street that same night.
Police said no high-value items were taken from the vehicles during Monday’s break-ins.
The remaining 84 cars were vandalized late Dec. 13 and early Dec. 14 in the SouthPark and Myers Park areas, according to police.
One block saw 26 vehicles broken into, while two other nearby blocks each had over a dozen vehicles burglarized.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said they are looking for 19-year-old break-in suspect Hannah Jayna Freeman.
Police said the suspect drove off in a stolen vehicle when police tried to apprehend her Tuesday. Authorities said she could face more than 100 criminal violations once she’s in custody.
The third suspect is at large.
