OPINION:
I just heard about the serious injustice committed by the Colorado Supreme Court against citizen and former President Donald Trump (“Colorado Supreme Court orders Trump removed from ballot for Jan. 6 ’insurrection,’” web, Dec. 19).
In a 4-3 decision, the court removed Mr. Trump from the voting ballot, denying the people their constitutional right to vote for the person of their choice.
As a former law enforcement officer who retired at a young age due to preexisting war wounds from Vietnam, I feel compelled to speak out when I see an injustice such as this one. My first thought when I learned the news was that I hope Mr. Trump sues the miscreants on the bench for defamation and character assassination because he was neither charged with nor convicted of this crime.
The judges falsely accused Mr. Trump of being an insurrectionist in the Jan. 6 “insurrection” on the Capitol, denying him the right to due process and abusing their power.
According to many high-profile lawyers, the Colorado Supreme Court used Section 3 of the 14th Amendment as the basis for removing Mr. Trump from the ballot. Those learned lawyers also say this is the same section used against the South after the Civil War to deter it from starting another war.
The Democrats have attack Mr. Trump, filing phony charges and using every dirty trick in their playbook. This is, in effect, election interference.
Knowing that the Democrats fear Donald Trump beyond comprehension, I dare them to leave it up to the people of this country to choose the next president. If there is a God in heaven, it won’t be President Biden or any of his ilk.
