Presidential candidate Chris Christie says he’s the “only one” who can beat former President Donald Trump for the GOP nomination
Or so the former New Jersey governor says in his first campaign ad, a 30-second video titled “Only One” that was released Friday and is running in New Hampshire.
The ad starts off showing fellow candidates Nikki Haley, former U.S. ambassador, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis attacking each other in their own videos.
A narrator then says, “Chris Christie is the only one who can beat Trump because he’s the only one trying to beat Trump.”
Mr. Trump has been a big talking point for the former governor, who has repeatedly attacked him and called out other candidates for not mentioning him by name.
Mr. Christie’s campaign told Axios that the ad will run across local and cable TV, including live sports. It will also target CNN, CNBC and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
The former governor finds himself in third place in New Hampshire behind Mr. Trump and Ms. Haley, the former South Carolina governor. A poll from Decision Desk HQ and The Hill shows the former president leading with 46% support of voters, Ms. Haley in second with 20% and Mr. Christie in third with 13%.
This ad buy comes ahead of the caucus and primary season, with the New Hampshire primary scheduled for Jan. 23.
