NBC News is demanding that former President Donald Trump’s campaign remove a video that includes edited audio of one of the network’s correspondents.
The video that’s just over a minute long was shared by Trump adviser Chris LaCivita last month. It features NBC’s Garrett Haake reporting on the third GOP debate in Miami that the network hosted. It starts with unedited audio but then cuts to views of the candidates on the stage and viewers hear Mr. Haake’s voice calling Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis an “establishment RINO” and saying “nobody really gives a s—- about Nikki Haley.”
He makes other comments about former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott.
The network has demanded that the video be taken down, two people familiar with the request told Semafor.
A few hours after he posted the video, Mr. LaCivita shared the clip again, this time explicitly stating that it wasn’t real.
“To keep NBC News Lawyers off my ass, please note…THIS IS A PARODY!” he wrote.
Mr. Trump is not a fan of NBC News. In September he said that if he is elected president, he would launch an investigation of Comcast, the parent company of NBC News and MSNBC, for its “Country Threatening Treason.”
“They are almost all dishonest and corrupt, but Comcast, with its one-side and vicious coverage by NBC News, and in particular MSNBC, often and correctly referred to as MSDNC (Democrat National Committee!), should be investigated for its ’Country Threatening Treason,’” Mr. Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“I say up front, openly, and proudly that when I WIN the presidency of the United States, they and others of the LameStream Media will be thoroughly scrutinized for their knowingly dishonest and corrupt coverage of people, things, and events,” he said.
