“King of Morocco’s new energy ploy amounts to greenwashing thuggery” (web, Nov. 27) succinctly lays out the diabolical maneuvers that have been linked to one of the most inhuman monarchies in the Arab world.

Like his father, Hassan II, and grandfather Mohammed IV before him, Moroccan King Mohammed VI has just two goals: remaining on the throne and keeping rebellion at bay.

The king controls the Moroccan economy through a network of banks and companies. The secret police is the main guardian of “peace.” Dissidence means torture and extrajudicial killing.

Few independent writers have escaped to Europe to tell of their ordeals. Reports have recently come out about Morocco using the Israeli spy software Pegasus to spy on journalists and political leaders. The Moroccan government has reportedly even spied on foreign diplomats, including the president of France.

European Parliament members have been charged with taking bribes and working for Morocco’s government.

It seems Mohammed VI has no legal or ethical standards in the way he is running the country, let alone in how he governs what he calls “subjects.”
