It will be up to voters to decide former President Donald Trump’s fate (“Curious timing: Trump hit with indictments whenever incriminating evidence emerges in Biden probes,” web, Aug 3).

What’s clear, though, is that President Biden and his corrupt administration are orchestrating a different fate for Mr. Trump.

The Department of Justice and its henchman, special prosecutor Jack Smith, will stop at nothing to keep Mr. Trump from running in 2024 and putting him in the slammer. That’s the raison d’etre for indicting him with all of these charges, most of which are on shaky or unprecedented legal grounds.

Part one of DOJ’s persecution of Mr. Trump is its strategy of distraction (keep the public focused on the indictments instead of on the Biden family’s crimes) to eliminate him as the GOP’s 2024 nominee.

Part two is its intent to run up Mr. Trump’s legal bills to the point that he can no longer fund his huge legal expenses. Even with Mr. Trump’s wealth, this is the government against an individual.

This battle is reminiscent of former President Ronald Reagan’s legitimate strategy in the 1980s of outspending the USSR to such an extent that it lacked funds for arms and was on the brink of bankruptcy. So the Russians gave up; they couldn’t afford the costs.

In the current national battle between giant egos — Mr. Biden’s corrupt government vs. Mr. Trump — I think the government’s strategy will fail. That is, Mr. Trump will find a way to bear the costs.

The DOJ-Biden-Smith strategy is also reminiscent of the Spanish Inquisition, which was all about persecuting enemies and consolidating power.

In Mr. Biden’s case, it’s about getting rid of anyone that disagrees with him and amassing power in the executive branch. To hell with the Constitution and the rule of law.
