Thank you for publishing Rep. Bob Latta’s recent op-ed about electric vehicles (“Rush to expand electric vehicle fleets is misguided,” web, Aug. 15).

I was especially glad to see that the congressman acknowledged “the value electric vehicles bring to the table to help reduce carbon emissions.”

Mr. Latta disagrees with the way the Biden administration and the state of California are promoting electric vehicles — and by extension, with the way some politicians are addressing climate change.

But this is where the debate belongs: not whether to transition to clean energy and clean technologies, and not whether to reduce our carbon emissions and address climate change, but how to do it all.

People of good faith can disagree about how to solve a problem. Acknowledging that we have a problem is an essential starting point. Thanks to Mr. Latta for being part of this vital conversation.
