North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum was injured Tuesday while playing basketball with staff members, placing his debate appearance Wednesday in question.

The Republican governor and 2024 presidential candidate hurt his leg, and it was “unclear if he will be able to stand at debate,” Burgum campaign spokesman Lance Trover told The Washington Times, confirming a report on CNN.

“Will know more later,” he said.

Mr. Burgum, a wealthy software entrepreneur who says America must unleash its energy potential, was scheduled to stand on the stage-left edge in Milwaukee — or the far right of viewers’ TV screens.

The debate will be hosted by Fox News and start at 9 p.m. Eastern time.

Mr. Burgum is trying to increase his name recognition and profile as he polls in the low single digits.

He will compete against seven other GOP candidates. The front-runner, former President Donald Trump, is not participating.

“Wishing Doug Burgum well. Looking forward to seeing him on stage tonight,” a GOP rival for the nomination, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, said on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter.
