OPINION:
If President Biden is the smartest person in the room, as he seems to believe he is, a display of that intelligence would be for him to pardon Donald Trump.
This would serve the cause of national unity he spoke about at his inauguration, force Mr. Trump to accept Mr. Biden’s election as president and perhaps most importantly for Mr. Biden, set the precedent for Mr. Biden himself to be pardoned from revenge indictments.
Pardoning Mr. Trump might bring Mr. Biden another win. During the upcoming election campaign, the hard left would be so upset with Mr. Biden that he could better make his claim to be a middle-of-the-road candidate.
