Transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney, having brought boycotts to Bud Light, is now doing the same for Maybelline.
A clip of Mulvaney applying Maybelline makeup and the cosmetic brand’s cheers gained new social-media prominence this week, and the hashtag #BoycottMaybelline trended on Twitter on Tuesday.
“Maybe he’s born with it, maybe it’s Maybelline. The new face of Maybelline, ladies!” Oli London wrote on Twitter while reposting a video of Mulvaney applying make-up and “getting glam” with the hashtag “#Maybellinepartner.”
Mulvaney is a biological male who identifies as female and who in March marked 365 days “of being a girl” to corporate America’s cheers.
Some conservatives, such as Jordan B. Peterson, called for boycotts of Maybelline while others drew quick comparison with the Bud Light partnership.
“Bud Light: We are literally the worst at knowing our consumer base. Maybelline: Hold our beer,” wrote lawyer Jenna Ellis.
Mulvaney, who is also at the center of a Bud Light boycott that has led to a 17% decline in sales and leaves of absence for multiple executives, posted a video on March 13 on the first gender-transition anniversary.
Maybelline reposted the clip to its Instagram account, writing, “Maybelline Glam all day, every day!”
“So proud to be part of @dylanmulvaney’s incredible journey as she celebrated 365 days of being a girl on Monday. Thanks for letting us be part of your special day LOVE YA!” Maybelline added.
