Coastal erosion from two hurricanes exposed a shipwreck last week off the coast of Daytona Beach, Florida.

Aerial photographs show what looks like a ship’s hull, 20 to 30 feet long. Researchers are set to explore the debris this week, though inclement weather may delay the examination of the wreckage.

If it is a ship, it would be the second one discovered near Daytona Beach after Hurricanes Ian and Nicole battered Florida’s coast last year. In December, another wreckage was discovered near the beach that researchers believe was part of a 19th-century ship.

In the wake of the two hurricanes, human remains from an Indian burial ground and a 1930s suitcase were found.

The wreckage found last week came as high tides increased erosion on Florida’s shore significantly. According to reports, the two hurricanes swept away millions of yards of cubic sand from the state’s shoreline last year.
