Star TV host Tucker Carlson is leaving Fox News, according to a Monday statement from the network.
Fox News said that Mr. Carlson and the network agreed to part ways. His final show was Friday.
“We thank him for his service to the network as a host and prior to that as a contributor,” Fox News said in its statement sent to The Washington Times.
Mr. Carlson’s 8 p.m. time slot will be filled by “Fox News Tonight” on Monday with interim hosts rotating into the position until a permanent replacement is announced, per the statement.
The departure comes less than a week after Fox News settled a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million over the network airing allegations that the company’s voting machines were rigged in favor of now-President Joseph R. Biden during the 2020 election.
Mr. Carlson was a ratings magnet for Fox News in the over six years he served as a show host. “Tucker Carlson Tonight” regularly had over two million viewers each night, which made it the most-watched cable news program in 2021 and the second-most-watched show in 2022 — behind fellow Fox program “The Five.”
“Tucker Carlson Tonight” was recently named the second-most-watched cable news show during the first quarter of 2023, according to Nielsen Media Research.
