YouTube TV, the new home of NFL Sunday Ticket that allows viewers to watch any team’s games from anywhere, announced the prices it will charge for the package Tuesday.
The Sunday Ticket package offers games aired regionally on CBS and Fox affiliates on Sunday afternoons.
There are two pricing tiers offered by YouTube, one for customers of YouTube TV, which is a replacement for cable, and one for customers of YouTube Primetime Channels, which offers an a la carte selection of channels to subscribe to, including Paramount+, AMC+, Starz, and Showtime.
While Primetime Channels are a channel-by-channel purchase, YouTube TV bumped its monthly subscription price by $8 up to $72.99 in March.
Through June 6, customers of either tier will be able to get a $100 presale markdown on the two packages offered; one that just has Sunday Ticket, and one that has both Sunday Ticket and NFL RedZone, which runs live on Sundays showing every touchdown from every game, along with other major highlights.
The price breakdown is:
— $249 for adding on Sunday Ticket as a YouTube TV customer, $349 after June 6.
— $289 for the Sunday Ticket/RedZone combo as a YouTube TV customer, $389 after June 6.
— $349 to purchase Sunday Ticket as a Primetime Channels customer, $449 after June 6.
— $389 to purchase the Sunday Ticket/RedZone combo as a Primetime Channels customer, $489 after June 6.
From 1994 through the 2022-2023 NFL season, the out-of-market sports package was offered on satellite cable provider DirecTV.
The switch to YouTube TV has raised the overall price of Sunday Ticket, which cost $293.94 yearly for the basic package on DirecTV. DirecTV was hemorrhaging money on the Sunday Ticket rights to the tune of $500 million lost yearly, according to the Wall Street Journal.
YouTube TV is paying around $2 billion yearly to the NFL for the rights. In concert with the league, YouTube TV is working on more Sunday Ticket packages to offer consumers.
“We’re partnering with the NFL to look at different types of packages. We might offer mid-season, late-season — we’re just kicking off that research as well,” YouTube Vice President of Product Management Christian Oestlien told The Verge.
YouTube will be adding multiple features to Sunday Ticket as well.
YouTube TV customers will be able to watch four games simultaneously, have unlimited DVR storage for games, real-time stats, the option to view key plays, fantasy football data, and the option to hide spoilers by turning off the score bug chyron at the bottom of the screen, according to The Athletic.
Primetime Channels customers, on the other hand, will only have access to the four-game simulcast and key plays features.
YouTube TV customers also have the option to purchase NFL RedZone through the service’s Sports Plus add-on for $10.99 monthly.
RedZone, produced by the NFL, airs on its own cable channel. While DirecTV had its own version of RedZone hosted by the NFL Network’s Andrew Siciliano, YouTube TV will air the cable channel edition, hosted by fellow NFL Network anchor Scott Hanson.
