Longtime Las Vegas-area journalist Jeff German was found dead with stab wounds outside his home early Saturday.
Authorities responded to a call around 10:30 a.m. when a neighbor spotted Mr. German, 69, lying along the side of his home, according to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, his employer since 2010.
Responding officers found Mr. German and pronounced him dead at the scene. Preliminarily, police believe he was in an altercation with another person on Friday that led to his stabbing.
Police told the Review-Journal that they have some suspects in mind but have yet to make any arrests.
Mr. German broke multiple stories during his time at the Review-Journal as well as at the Las Vegas Sun, where he covered courts, politics, government and organized crime for 20 years.
At the Review-Journal, Mr. German broke the news that a city councilwoman’s campaign finances were under investigation by the FBI and that the Clarke County coroner’s office was plagued by sexual harassment claims.
He was a part of a years-long investigation into Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, the city’s main tourism agency, that revealed lavish purchases of high-end entertainment and first-class trips overseas for elected officials who served on the authority’s board.
The investigation led to some criminal charges in 2020 — which resulted in settlements — as well as the ouster of the authority’s longtime CEO.
