OPINION:
To produce zero carbon emissions, solar and wind would require the land area equivalent to five South Dakotas. To produce the same amount of energy, nuclear power plants require just 640 acres of land.
Fueling an electric vehicle requires a professionally installed Level 2 charger, not a Level 1. On average, it costs 35% more per 100 miles to buy electricity over gasoline. This is because of the increased price by the residential producer of electricity.
EV ownership is also associated with higher water usage. Electric car fires are far more problematic than fires that engulf gas-powered vehicles. Dowsing a gas-powered car fire require less than 1,000 gallons of water; putting out an on-fire Tesla takes anywhere from 3,000 to 10,000 gallons of water. That’s because lithium-ion batteries burn at a much higher temperature, approximately 1,380 degrees Fahrenheit versus 600 degrees Fahrenheit. Let’s stick with gas-powered cars.
