Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, participated Thursday in a voluntary interview with the House select committee probing the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
As Mrs. Thomas arrived at the committee’s offices Thursday, a reporter for CNN pressed her about her appearance, asking why she felt the need to speak to the committee to clear her name, and whether she had spoken with her husband about her stolen-election beliefs.
“Thank you for being here,” Mrs. Thomas said with a smile. “Thank you for your question. I look forward to answering the members [of the committee].”
Mrs. Thomas’ lawyer said last week she agreed to talk with the panel “to clear up any misconceptions about her work relating to the 2020 election.”
The panel has been itching to talk to Mrs. Thomas to get more insight into the role she reportedly played in trying to help former President Donald Trump challenge the results of the 2020 election.
Mrs. Thomas contacted legislators in Arizona and Wisconsin following the election. The outreach came before the pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol to protest President Biden’s victory.
She also was in contact with Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.
