OPINION:
When President Biden stated that “we do not ask any nation to choose between the United States or any other partner” in his recent speech before the U.N. General Assembly, I was startled. At a moment in history when the world needs moral clarity from the United States more than ever, Joe Biden chose weakness with the one world gang at the failing U.N.
It wasn’t so long ago that President Ronald Reagan was rallying the world around the belief that confronting the Soviet Union and their communist dictatorship was a clear-cut battle of good against evil. “We win, they lose,” Reagan used to say about his preferred outcome in the Cold War against Marxism-Leninism and the “evil empire” in Moscow. So, when Joe Biden tells the world he’s not asking for anyone to choose sides, he’s giving the likes of Russia, China, Iran and their allies a free pass and providing an open invitation for more bad behavior.
The American president is the singular world leader who must remind the world that sometimes it’s necessary to choose sides. The world should choose between sovereignty and Russian atrocities in Ukraine, the world should choose between human rights and Uyghur genocide in China, and the world should choose between democratic principles and women’s rights and the world’s leading state-sponsor of terrorism in Iran.
Mr. Biden’s bad habit of equivocation in the fights that matter paves the way for even more problems on the world stage. Just look at what’s happened to the United Nations. As long as Russia and China are allowed to call the shots as permanent members of the Security Council, can anyone say with certainty what the U.N. stands for today? Certainly not freedom, democracy and religious tolerance.
We live in a complex world where bad actors exist; there’s no escaping that fact.
President Reagan and President Donald Trump understood that the world is a safer and more prosperous place when America is out front leading by word and deed, not slipping back into the pack in the Obama-Biden tradition. Showing up as the tip of the spear on the brutally tough issues that others may cower from is the essence of American exceptionalism. We must once again embrace this daunting responsibility, not run from it.
The same can be said for free market economic principles and socialism. When President Barack Obama said he wanted to fundamentally transform our country, we now know exactly what he was talking about because Joe Biden is busy trying to finish the job.
History has taught us that everywhere socialism’s been attempted, it has failed miserably — and the end results won’t be any different in the United States. Limited government, capitalism, low taxes and regulations and individual liberty are what have given generations of people — both those born here and those who’ve come here legally from other countries — a shot at pursuing the American Dream. It’s up to us to keep that dream alive for future generations.
The Green New Deal, student loan forgiveness, explosive inflation, out-of-control spending, a bloated and broken central government, critical race theory, a more menacing IRS, and a politicized Justice Department all stand in stark contrast to the principles that have allowed our constitutional republic to thrive over the past 233 years. It’s clear that 2022 has become the year in which a choice has to be made between right and wrong.
Is it right to ignore a $31 trillion national debt in the name of climate change? Is it right to hire 87,000 new IRS agents to monitor small businesses? Is it right to open our border to crime and drugs? Is it right to demonize police and end cash bail? Is it right to forgive debts when others worked overtime to pay in full? Is it right to raid the home of future political opponents? This is all wrong in the United States of America, and it’s time to end it.
Let’s not regret failing to take action when it mattered most. A coalition of freedom-loving Americans from all walks of life must band together right now to stop the precipitous slide to socialism that we’re in the midst of under the Biden-Harris regime. A Republican majority in Congress in 2022 will set the stage for a Republican president in 2024 who will seek to restore American greatness at home and abroad.
President Reagan was right when he said freedom is “never more than one generation away from extinction.” Let’s not lose it on our watch.
