It may be easy for Washington Commanders fans to see the team’s schedule and chalk up Sunday’s game against the lowly Detroit Lions as a victory.
But Vegas doesn’t agree.
For the first time since 2020, the Detroit Lions are favored by the oddsmakers to win an NFL game. Despite losing Week 1 to Philadelphia, the Lions showed signs of improvement over the team that went 3-13-1 last season and went all year without being favored to win.
As of Wednesday morning, the Lions are favored against the visiting Commanders by 2.5 points on DraftKings. The last time the Lions were favored to win a game was in November 2020 — 24 games ago.
With the home advantage worth approximately three points, the oddsmakers currently view these two teams as basically evenly matched through one week of the season.
Betting odds aside, the Commanders are coming off an impressive come-from-behind victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars, although the comeback was necessary due to self-induced mistakes. If the Commanders can get a road win Sunday over the Lions, they’ll enter Week 3 against the Eagles 2-0 before facing the Dak Prescott-less Cowboys in Week 4.
