At one point the U.S. was mostly energy independent. In 2019, for the first time since 1952, we were a net energy exporter. This energy independence is a key characteristic of a healthy economy and is also important for national security.

Being environmentally responsible is a good thing, but you don’t do it by suddenly “turning off the spigot” without sufficient alternate sources. There needs to be a solid plan to bring about proven renewable sources of energy while we decrease dependence on fossil fuels.

Yet what we are actually doing is turning off the spigot while trying to ramrod renewable energy sources based upon emotion rather than a solid plan. This places the U.S. in a downward spiral — one of higher prices, dependence on foreign sources and great national security vulnerability. None of this is necessary.

We need a national energy plan with rational goals and incremental benchmarks. What we now have is a stampede that is greatly hurting our country.
