Carson Wentz reportedly suffered a fractured finger in Thursday’s win over the Chicago Bears and a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed that the quarterback will fly to Los Angeles on Monday to visit a hand specialist for the injury.
Wentz’s trip to Los Angeles will determine the next steps for the quarterback — such as whether he needs surgery — but the injury is a blow to the 29-year-old and the Commanders, who haven’t started only one quarterback in a season since 2017. If Wentz has to miss time, then backup Taylor Heinicke would likely get the nod for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

Wentz hurt his finger in the second quarter of Thursday’s game when his hand smacked into the hand of Bears lineman Justin Jones upon throwing a pass. Wentz proceeded to clutch his hand and tried to repeatedly shake it off. The signal-caller finished the game, but threw for only 99 yards on 12 of 22 passing.
Wentz was already dealing with a shoulder injury that he suffered in last Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans. He was taken off the injury report in time for Thursday’s game, but the NFL Network reported that the injury was a biceps strain.
The NFL Network first reported Wentz’s broken finger.
