Add Kevin Durant’s name to the list of those who are interested in owning a piece of the Washington Commanders.

The NBA star is a lifelong fan of the franchise and grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland. He told ESPN on Thursday that, “In a perfect world, I would be a part of it.”

“I would love to do it,” Durant continued. “I would love to give a little bit of my money to be a part of the Commanders, but we’ll see. Hopefully it’s somebody nice. I heard [former Amazon CEO Jeff] Bezos and Jay-Z, but you never know.”

Durant’s net worth is estimated to be around $200 million — not enough to be in serious contention as a majority owner, but he could take on a minority stake in a group purchase.

The Commanders hired a financial firm last week to explore all possible sale options for the team.

New reporting Sunday suggested that the team is expected to sell for $7 billion or more and a deal could be finalized within the next six months.

Mr. Bezos and Jay-Z were some of the earliest known names to show interest in the franchise.

Comedian and Entertainment Studios founder Byron Allen is representing an investor group that has expressed interest in purchasing the franchise.

Mortgage executive Mat Ishbia has thrown his hat in the ring of those who are looking to take ownership of Washington’s football franchise as well.
