The locker room gun incident is all water under the bridge for Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton.
Arenas said on the “I Am Athlete” podcast that released Monday that he and Crittenton are still friends despite the 2009 gambling disagreement that led to the two Wizards players drawing guns on each other in the locker room.
“We talk once a week,” Arenas said. “It’s just like when we were teammates. ’Man, what do you think about this series? What do you think about this series?’ … We just talk about basketball.”
The infamous locker room incident led to lengthy suspensions for both players. Arenas would play his last NBA season two years later, while Crittenton wound up in prison after being accused of killing a woman. In 2015, Crittenton pleaded guilty to manslaughter and is currently in the middle of a 23-year prison sentence.
Arenas also said on the podcast that shortly after the gambling spat, he gave Crittenton money to help his mother get neck surgery and that he still helps Crittenton today.
“His mother needed surgery for her neck,” Arenas said. “He asked me [for money] because he knows I’m not going to hold it personal.”
“Even then, I took care of him,” Arenas added. “Because nobody wanted to f—- with him at that time. Like, even to this day, I send him cell phones if he needs a new cell phone.”
