OPINION:
President Biden’s “Ministry of Truth” (“Disinformation Governance Board: Biden’s ’Ministry of Truth,’” Web, May 2) should start by calling out Mr. Biden himself for attempting to gaslight the American public with his “Putin’s price hike” rhetoric. First of all, the U.S. stopped buying Russian oil after the invasion of Ukraine. Therefore the price Russia charges for oil is irrelevant to the price Americans pay for gasoline. Second, the price that Russia is getting for the oil it does sell is apparently down about 30%, to $70 per barrel.
Third, Mr. Biden gleefully killed the Keystone Pipeline on his first day as president. That project was on track to deliver more oil from Canada than the U.S. was buying from Russia. Mr. Biden’s Interior Department has just nixed oil-and-gas lease sales in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico.
In summary, Mr. Biden has done pretty much everything in his power to discourage exploration, production and transmission of North American oil and gas while blaming the resulting price increases on Russia. Russia has actually reduced its price and no longer sells any oil or gas in the U.S. market.
