Aaron Rodgers is staying put, but a major quarterback is on the move.
In a blockbuster trade, the Denver Broncos are acquiring Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks, according to multiple reports. The move comes hours after news broke out that Rodgers — often rumored as a trade candidate to Denver — was returning to the Green Bay Packers. And now, the Broncos — in desperate need of a quarterback — have landed Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion whose lone ring previously came against Denver.
The trade also comes as a major surprise as Seattle had remained steadfast publicly that Wilson was not available. Wilson, 33, also had a no-trade clause and had also said various times over the past few weeks that he wanted to remain with the Seahawks.
But now, Wilson is apparently on the move. The deal is reportedly Wilson and a fourth-round pick to Denver for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-rounder, quarterback Drew Lock, defensive end Shelby Harris and tight end Noah Fant. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the deal is pending a physical and Wilson waiving his no-trade clause.
With Wilson, the Broncos finally land a franchise quarterback — something they’ve been searching for in the years since Peyton Manning retired in 2016. Seattle, meanwhile, will presumably look to rebuild after a 7-10 season.
