Aaron Rodgers staying with Packers, agrees to massive contract extension

Aaron Rodgers is staying put. 

The MVP quarterback agreed to a four-year, $200 million contract extension with the Green Bay Packers — ending year-long speculation over his future. Rodgers, 38, had been mulling whether to demand a trade or retire, but instead he signed a massive new deal that is set to pay him $50 million annually.

The NFL Network reports that $153 million of the $200 million contract is guaranteed. 

Rodgers is coming off back-to-back MVP seasons. Prior to 2021, Rodgers had held out of Green Bay’s offseason activities before showing up for training camp. He admitted to being displeased by not being consulted in the Packers’ personnel decisions.  

This past season, Rodgers created a stir when he admitted he had misled people about his vaccination status — leading to widespread backlash. Despite the controversy, Rodgers put together another MVP campaign, throwing for 4,115 yards and 37 touchdowns to four interceptions. The Packers fell short in the playoffs, losing to the San Francisco 49ers at home.
