Colts’ Taylor ‘sad’ about Wentz trade to Commanders

Is Carson Wentz a bad leader?

The Colts’ best player last season doesn’t think so.

Star running back Jonathan Taylor recently said that he was “sad” to see Wentz go when he was traded from the Colts to the Commanders for multiple Day 2 draft picks, adding that the quarterback was an “amazing” teammate. 

“I’m definitely sad to see Carson go,” Taylor said at The Maxwell Club press conference on Friday. “He was amazing in the locker room and on the field as well. You look at some of the plays he made on the field, but off the field he was an amazing guy always. He made sure to get in contact with everyone on the team.”

Taylor was an All-Pro last season in his second year with the Colts, rushing for a league-leading 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns. 

Wentz has received heat for the last five years, with some raising questions about his ability to be a leader or just be a good teammate. The 29-year-old signal-caller has now been traded in two straight NFL offseasons, as his time in both Philadelphia and Indianapolis souring near the ends of the 2020 and 2021 campaigns. 

When asked recently about the reports regarding his deficiencies as a leader, Wentz said he believed he had “amazing relationships” with people in both Indianapolis and Philadelphia. 

“Reports are reports and there’s truth in some things all those things,” Wentz said during his introductory press conference last week. “If we were in this business trying to combat and argue every report, we’d run out of things to say, you know? And so for me, I just try and be myself, be myself, get to know the guys, build the relationships. 

“I strongly feel I had amazing relationships with people in Philly and people in Indy.”
