ASHBURN — The Washington Commanders have filled a hole on their offensive line. And you’ll never guess where he used to play.
The Washington Commanders are expected to sign guard Andrew Norwell, a source with knowledge said — bringing in the former Carolina Panther to reunite with coach Ron Rivera and offensive line coach John Matsko.
Norwell is coming off a four-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, but he began his career in Carolina — where he developed from an undrafted free agent in 2014 to an All-Pro in 2017. He left Carolina in 2018 to sign a five-year, $66.5 million deal with the Jaguars.
Terms of Norwell’s new deal were not immediately available. But his signing comes days after Washington lost starting right guard Brandon Scherff to Jacksonville and cut starter Ereck Flowers.
Norwell, 30, has primarily played his career at left guard. He’s coming off a season in which he played in all 17 games.
Last year, the Jaguars restructured Norwell’s contract to a one-year deal for $12 million. That allowed him to hit free agency this offseason.
