Former Washington Commanders running back J.D. McKissic plans to sign a two-year, $7 million deal with the Buffalo Bills, according to multiple reports — creating a new hole at the position for the Burgundy and Gold.
McKissic, 28, had emerged as a valuable contributor for Washington over the last two years. He joined the team on a two-year, $3.27 million contract, a deal that quickly proved to be a steal as McKissic became featured prominently in the offense. In 2020, McKissic was targeted 110 times — a league-high for running backs — and produced 954 yards (589 receiving, 365 rushing) from scrimmage. Last year, McKissic was still productive even as he missed six games because of a season-ending neck injury that he suffered in late November.
Now, McKissic joins a contender in Buffalo. He is the second player to leave Washington for the Bills in recent days as Buffalo also agreed to terms with defensive tackle Tim Settle on a two-year, $9 million deal.
McKissic’s contract contains incentives that can boost the overall value to $8 million. ESPN first reported the news.
Washington will now have to find a pass-catching back to pair with starter Antonio Gibson and fill McKissic’s absence.
