I agree with Supreme Court Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh on very little, but we have one thing in common: our belief that a judicial authority should be free from intimidation, particularly where he or she resides (“Armed man arrested outside Justice Kavanaugh’s home planned to kill him: Report” Web, June 8).

The report of a man appearing near the justice’s home with at least one gun and telling the authorities he wanted to kill Justice Kavanaugh is the latest in a series of efforts to terrorize members of the judiciary and their families. It must end.

No justice or judge takes the job with the expectation that his or her personal safety will be violated. In order for us to have a functioning judicial system, those who would kill, harm or terrorize must be dealt with harshly.
