Trent Williams is the best offensive lineman in football and possibly one of the best in NFL history, according to the makers of the Madden football video game.

Williams, the former Washington left tackle who now plays for the 49ers, learned on Wednesday that he would become the first offensive lineman in Madden history to receive a 99 rating — the highest any player can receive.

A video of Williams reacting to the news of joining the 99 Club was shown on Adrian Peterson’s Instagram live on Wednesday. Williams, 33, received a gift box from an EA Sports representative in the video.

“Man, that’s crazy. I appreciate it,” Williams said.

Williams joining the 99 Club is even more impressive considering the path his career has taken. After being a seven-time Pro Bowler with Washington, Williams was diagnosed in January 2019 with a rare form of sarcoma on his scalp. He missed the entire 2019 season and was traded to San Francisco ahead of the 2020 campaign.

Despite taking the season off, Williams didn’t miss a beat, earning Pro Bowl selections in each of the past two seasons with the 49ers. He signed a six-year, $138 million contract with the 49ers last March.
