OPINION:
It appears that the most important qualifications for the next Supreme Court justice are gender, race and political affiliation (“Biden ready for rare racial justice win with Supreme Court pick,” Web, Jan. 27). In my opinion there are only two issues that should be considered.
First, will the candidate preserve, defend and support the Constitution as it is written (and subsequently amended) or will the candidate feel free to reinterpret and de-facto amend by judicial decision? Second, will the candidate feel bound to apply constitutional laws passed by legislatures and promulgated by elected leaders or will the candidate feel free to ignore or amend by judicial decision laws that he or she does not like?
