Alex Ovechkin will have a friend at the NHL All-Star Game next weekend.
The NHL announced on Sunday that Washington Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov will be added to the Metropolitan Division’s roster for the All-Star Game on Saturday.
Kuznetsov is taking the place of New York Rangers defenseman Adam Fox on the Metro team. The All-Star Game appearance will be the second of the 29-year-old’s career.
Kuznetsov is enjoying a bounce-back season after a disappointing, COVID-19-riddled 2020-21 campaign. In 42 games this year, the first-line center has 13 goals and 30 assists. He leads the Capitals in assists and is second in goals and points, behind only Ovechkin, who led the NHL in All-Star Game fan voting and is the Metro team’s captain.
The All-Star Weekend festivities in Las Vegas begin Friday with the skills challenge at 7:30 p.m. The All-Star Game will be at 3 p.m. Saturday.
