These aren’t going to be your normal bobbleheads.
Manute Bol and Gheorghe Muresan — tied as the tallest NBA players ever at 7-foot-7 — are two of three former Bullets players being recognized by the Washington Wizards organization as bobbleheads at upcoming games.
And, naturally, their bobbleheads will be taller than normal-sized ones.
The other player to get a bobblehead — Wes Unseld — isn’t extremely tall (by NBA standards, of course), but he is regarded as the best player in franchise history and is the father of current Wizards coach Wes Unseld Jr.
The bobblehead giveaways are part of the NBA’s 75th anniversary celebrations. Bol’s giveaway is Feb. 7 against Miami. Muresan’s is March 27 versus Golden State, and Unseld’s is April 1 against Dallas.
Bol, a second-round pick by Washington in the 1985 NBA draft, played the first three seasons of his career with the Bullets. Mostly a defensive presence, Bol led the NBA in blocks with 5 per game as a rookie in 1985-86. Muresan, who played four seasons for the Bullets in the 1990s, averaged 10.6 points and 6.8 rebounds in Washington before his career was derailed by injuries. The team will hand out 7,700 bobbleheads for both Bol and Muresan as a play on their 7-foot-7 heights.
Unseld’s bobblehead night, which features the Bullets’ 1970s white jersey with red stripes, will coincide with the Wizards’ Hall of Fame Night. In honor of being the 1978 NBA Finals MVP, 7,800 fans will receive Unseld’s bobblehead.
