Amazon wants to deliver football to viewers on Black Friday. The NFL apparently isn’t so sure.

According to a report from Sports Business Journal, Amazon is pushing for the league to add a game to its 2022 schedule the day after Thanksgiving, a holiday in which the NFL dominates. The league, however, is “lukewarm” to the idea — with Sports Business Journal reporting the door “may be closed” on a Black Friday game.

Amazon and the NFL have done business with each other in recent years and in 2022, the league’s “Thursday Night Football” package will air exclusively to Prime Video. Amazon paid $1 billion per season, according to CNBC, to have the rights to air 15 Thursday night games and one preseason game.  The length of the deal lasts for 11 years and the Internet company has reportedly pursued broadcasting giants like Al Michaels and Troy Aikman to call its games.

Sports Business Journal reported Amazon wanted a Black Friday game to “complement Amazon’s e-commerce business, and it would be similar to its Premier League strategy in Britain, where it carries all of the league’s Boxing Day games.”
