Being a card-carrying member of a Virginia-recognized Indian tribe but looking more white than the Hollywood version of an “indigenous” person, I have often been prohibited from dancing, singing and socializing at powwows. And although not easily offended myself, I was truly appalled at Monday’s Holocaust comment by “The View” host Whoopi Goldberg.

Ms. Goldberg said the murder of millions of Jewish people was “not about race.” On Tuesday she quickly covered her behind with an apology after the backlash and criticism her remark generated.

So as to avoid a double-standard, non-inclusive situation, Ms. Goldberg should be required by her employers to take more accountability for her actions. After all, similar transgressions by whites have been dealt with far more harshly.
