The Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl victory meant a little something extra to wide receiver Van Jefferson.

Not only did the 25-year-old win his first-ever championship, but Jefferson’s wife, Samaria, went into labor during the game — causing Jefferson to rush to the hospital afterward to be there for his newborn son. Jefferson skipped the post-game celebration with teammates for good reason.

Samaria left SoFi Stadium on a stretcher upon going into labor. She attended the game at 40 weeks pregnant, telling The Athletic that she prayed that her water wouldn’t break during the game. She also had a contingency plan for if she did: She ordered the Rams to not tell her husband in the middle of the game.

“I said, ‘You play, I’ll see you at the hospital afterwards,’” she told The Athletic. “That’s what it is. I will never take that moment away from him.”

The second-year receiver, who also has a 5-year-old daughter, posted an update on social media not long after the game.

“It was a great day, bro,” Jefferson said on Instagram Live. “I got three prizes today: my wife, my son, and the Super Bowl.”
