Before quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Joe Burrow take to the air in Super Bowl 56, a historic flyover will honor the 75th anniversary of the United States Air Force.
The Air Force Heritage Flight will be a first-of-its-kind flyover at the end of the national anthem at SoFi Stadium. The flyover will feature a formation of five iconic aircraft to recognize the Air Force’s evolution since 1947.
The five aircraft that will be flown are the P-51 Mustang, A-10C Thunderbolt II, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-22 Raptor and F-35 A Lightning II. The P-51 Mustang was first flown during World War II and will lead the formation.
Flyovers before the Super Bowl are not new. In 1968, U.S. Air Force fighter jets wowed fans at the Orange Bowl in Miami before Super Bowl 2.
The pre-game flyover is a #SuperBowl ritual more than half a century old. This Sunday, an F-35A, from the @F35DemoTeam, will join 4 other historic aircraft for the #SBLVI #AF75 @AFHFlight flyover at @SofiStadium.
